Today, city centers are often aseptic, shiny, and trendy. The streets are designed specifically for shopping and are lined with brand names that dictate how you should dress, what you should eat and what you need to do to feel good. But, when I find myself downtown in Rome, instead of getting caught up in the consumerism on display in shop windows, I simply look up. And there, amidst the fleeting and ephemeral, I discover the unusual and the poetic. It's a reminder that, amidst the commercial chaos, there is still beauty and wonder to be found.
